TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF?
I am an IFBB Professional Bodybuilder & Fitness Model. I currently live in New York City. Before getting into the Bodybuilding world. I was a collegiate Athlete at the University of Tampa. I have degrees. One in Exercise Science and the other in Sports Mmgmt.
WHAT GOT YOU INTO BODYBUILDING?
I’ve always been a lifelong fitness enthusiast. I have been involved with sports since middle school. Once I got into high school I started to actually lift weight and train. However, that was more sports specific training. After graduating college and working as a personal trainer. One of my clients asked if I could train her to compete. Me, knowing nothing about the sport. Quickly learned and my client ended up wining and I then got involved myself.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
There’s quite a few. First and foremost I’d say graduating college with two degrees. I’ve also been fortunate to play on a NCAA top ranked team, but also becoming an IFBB Professional athlete.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOURSELF BEFORE A COMPETITION?
Laser Focus ! I get into that zone where I become extremely focused on the goal of competition. Making sure all my efforts day in and day out are one step closer to succeeding on game day. It’s that competitive drive!
DO YOU HAVE ANY TRAINING GOALS?
Train hard, Train Smart, continue to learn more and more about my body and how to continually improve. Most importantly stay healthy and injury free.
DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR TRAINING PROGRAM?
I train the larger body parts usually twice a week. But I’m constantly paying Attention to make sure I’m staying symmetrical and building an aesthetic physique.
WHERE DO YOU TRAIN AND HOW OFTEN?
I train 5-6 days a week regularly, also depending whether I’m in season or off-season if I take an extra recovery day. The two places I train are Equinox on Lexington Ave in Manhattan. The other gym is Star Fitness located in the Bronx, NY.
DO YOU EVER LOSE FOCUS/MOTIVATION TO TRAIN, AND IF SO HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THESE SITUATIONS?
Absolutely! I take a step back. Remember why I started this lifestyle and my passion for it. The motivation isn’t always there. But, you have to dig deep & find that foundation and climb your way back to the top of your game.
HOW FOCUSED IS YOUR DIET?
This is a lifestyle .. so my diet stays focused year round. That doesn’t mean that I don’t get to enjoy food or a good cheat meal. But it does mean that I’m always conscious of what I’m eating. During contest prep it’s extremely focused to every last macro nutrient.
DO YOU HAVE ANY FOOD WEAKNESSES?
No, I’m very disciplined. However! I do love pancakes. But I make sure when I do have them, that their put to use before or after a great workout.
WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE STRUGGLING WITH THEIR DIET?
Balance! Create a balanced program where you’re allowing yourself to succeed and staying committed to a reasonable program for yourself. Reward yourself after consecutive weeks on staying on track. But most importantly.. remember your WHY ? And the reason you chose a healthier lifestyle. Let that be your determination.
WHAT’S SOMETHING FUN, OR FUNNY, ABOUT YOURSELF THAT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW?
I’m actually a thrill seeker. I love things that make you go” WOW” I’ve done quiet a few things such as cliff diving that really sparked that inner thrill seeker. I also enjoy classical music. It tends to put me in a very relaxing and calming mood.
DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF LIFTING?
Yes! I love to travel and experience new countries and cultures. I plan on filling up my passport more and more every chance I get.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BODYBUILDING, AND WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WOULD WHAT TO CHANGE?
I love the inner competitiveness it brings out in me. The constant pursuit of challenging myself. Yes it’s me vs me .. but it’s also Me vs You ! Knowing each competitor has sacrificed and worked extremely hard to be their best and then we battle it out in a competitive spirit.
I would change to the dark shadow that sometimes is casted over the sport. Allowing people to get a better understanding and become more knowledgeable of what we do.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ANY NEWBIES INTERESTED IN POWERLIFTING?
That it takes time, discipline and patience. It’s the only sport that you don’t play. You live it ! 24/7 .. 365. Each day, each workout is getting your closer to your goal. However.. it’s a marathon.. not a sprint. Take time to learn what works for you.
